Are you SABOTAGING your workouts? Find out and fix it!

Looking at workouts online may make them look really simple, but there’s an art to getting them right. I am on a mission to make SAFE exercise easily accessible for everyone, because we all deserve to be exercising correctly and injury-free.

Form is important because exercising in the right positions allows the correct muscles to contract optimally and will therefore make them stronger and fitter. 😍

If you’re NOT in the right position (statically or dynamically), other muscles can help you to “cheat” and the work will be easier or in the wrong place. 🙅🏼‍♀️

For example, imagine how sore your neck would become after doing chest lifts (Pilates crunches) poorly. Or how sore your back would become after many squats using your back instead of your legs! 🫠

So, let's UN-SABOTAGE your workout!

Here are my TOP 3 easy tips to check your form.

1. If an exercise feels “easy”, you’re probably not doing it quite right

Don’t get me wrong, it’s normal to take a few reps to start feeling an exercise, but it should always be challenging you by the end of the first set! By the end of the third you should feel very little energy left in the tank if you’re moving correctly.

2. Use a mirror

Try exercising next to a full length mirror for your first few sessions. This is to focus on the way you’re moving and to get instant visual feedback (an external cue). BUT when you’ve got the hang of it, reposition your head in line with the rest of your spine, don’t constantly look at yourself and critique. I’d rather you take a quick look and then reposition, as head/neck position is important. Then, remove the mirror and trust that your body knows where to be (internal cueing). With practice this innate knowledge will improve, just like your lower limb balance does when you practice standing on one leg.

3. Check the recording carefully and listen to ALL of my cues

Are you moving exactly the same as the demonstration? Do you need to pause the video and practice a few times to get it right? Do you need to rewind to watch the demonstration again? Take your time. It will be worth it, especially when you’re starting out with a new exercise.

These reasons are a big part of the reason I've constructed my workouts as I have, using my Physio brain in accordance with my Pilates training 😊 I want you to be safe, healthy and get the most out of your workout!

If you barely have 20 mins to exercise, you NEED to be guided expertly to make those precious minutes worthwhile ❤️
